Build Confidence, Skills & Passion Through Dance

Take your dance experience to the next level with In Motion Dance Teams. Designed for dancers of different ages and ability levels, our teams provide opportunities to develop technique, confidence, teamwork, discipline, performance skills, and a passion for dance through competitions, conventions, community service, and performances.

In Motion Dance Teams

For our students who can’t get enough of dance, In Motion offers Dance Teams based on ability and level. Dance Team is effective at building self-esteem, confidence, and a passion for dance and performance. Dancers learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and the importance of setting and achieving goals.

Our Dance Team program also teaches the importance of giving back to others and helps dancers understand that they have the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of others through dance.

Auditions are typically held in late July.

Dance Team Requirements

Each team participates in four regional competitions between February and April. Dancers can benefit greatly from the competition experience because it exposes them to a wider dance community filled with talented dancers, versatile styles, and creative choreography. Our studio does not attend competitions for the sole purpose of winning trophies, but rather to learn, improve, and grow as much as possible, both individually and as a team.

Dancers are required to attend one dance convention. We want to see our dancers push themselves as artists and try new styles.

All Dance Team members are required to take Ballet. If you are not currently taking Ballet, you will need to add this class after you make the team. Juniors, Pre-Teens, Teens, and Seniors are required to take Ballet and one other class that will benefit them on their team. For example, a student making a Tap Team would be expected to take Ballet and Tap.

Dancers on a team are required to complete 4 hours of community service.

Dance Teams will perform and help put on a Benefit Performance to help raise money for a charity.

Each team will perform in one single recital performance. Solos, duets, trios, and production numbers are not included in the annual Recital.

Audition Information

Dancers will need to audition for placement on a Dance Team. Auditions for the 2026-27 year are held July 20-23, 2026.

Dancers who were previously on a Dance Team must first audition for the team they were previously on. New dancers auditioning should contact In Motion for audition requirements.

At the audition, dancers will learn a short dance combination and then perform the combination for judges in groups.

Dance Team Practices

Dance Teams begin practicing the first week in October and practice once a week. Dance Team practices are held on Sundays.

There is a monthly practice fee per team, which is automatically withdrawn with regular tuition.

What We Believe In

Our Competition Focus Is Not on Winning Awards

It is our goal to improve and instill a passion for performing rather than merely focusing on the desire to win awards. Through participation in competitions, we hope to instill in our students an appreciation for other dancers and schools.

We are not out to beat anyone. Instead, we hope to motivate both students and faculty by exposing them to the highest caliber of talent available. Only then can we produce the best dancers and teachers possible. For us, competition is an education!

Growing Through the Experience

With the right focus, the experience gained on a Dance Team can be an excellent source of self-confidence. If dancers feel good about a performance and understand that they become better each time they go on stage, they are truly growing through the Dance Team experience.

Hitting the stage and doing the best they can is what it’s all about. Whether they win, or which award they win, is secondary.
